With an almost 200-year history and a reputation for a great student experience, Leeds Beckett University welcomes 28,000 new students every year. The rich history for this exceptional institution began with the Leeds Mechanics Institute in 1824, which soon grew into the fully pledged university it is today. Facilities

Situated in the Leeds city centre, known for being the biggest financial district outside of London, Leeds Beckett University has many head-turning facilities that flock Leeds students here. From biomedical laboratories, film & broadcasting studios to landscape resource centres and communication suits, Leeds Beckett make your studies practical and accessible no matter what your subject is.

If you choose to live at our all-inclusive Leeds student accommodation, The Foundry, you’ll find be in a perfect location – only 10min walk to Leeds Beckett City Campus and the city centre around you giving you an opportunity to enjoy the local culture as well as get involved with on-campus activities. A variety of social and study spaces means you can study and spend free time here during your breaks. And if sporting facilities is on your must-have list, then Leeds Becket won’t disappoint. Carnegie Sports Centre offers an extensive range of high quality sport and fitness equipment and a place to host your next sporting event.

In addition to what’s already there the university will be investing £200 million in campus developments to enhance and improve the infrastructure, and provide modern and state-of-the-art facilities.

Student Union

Leeds Beckett Student Union is led by the Officer Team elected by students and aims to improve students’ lives and address the many different needs of the student body. Every year they run events and campaigns that will surely peak your interest! And if you’re looking to pick up a new hobby or meet new friends during a fun activity, you can join one of the many societies and clubs on offer at Leeds Beckett SU. From academic, media, faith and culture groups, to liberation and political parties, to societies based on a hobby such as watching films or photography, the opportunities are endless!

The student union also offer a number of social spaces, like The Hive, to hang out in or meet friends. Here you can take advantage of a new vegan menu, grab a coffee or a drink, or browse the pop-up LBSU Thrift shop.

Awards

Leeds Beckett University has the European Commission HR Excellence in Research Award (first awarded to the University in July 2015), in recognition of its continued commitment to the career development and management of its research staff.

Leeds Beckett Student Union has been awarded a NUS Award for Relationships and Partnerships in 2018.
