Situated near Brighton, University of Sussex is a unique learning institution with both an international and local outlook. Nearly 17,000 students that attend University of Sussex come from more than 100 countries and frequently engage in community activities and services.
Sussex Uni students get the best of both worlds: diverse and liberal atmosphere in the city making their student life in Brighton rich and matched by a creative and intellectually challenging learning space for their higher education and career goals.
Sussex was the first of a new wave of UK universities founded in the 1960s, receiving its Royal Charter in 1961. These days, it’s a research intensive university giving Brighton students an opportunity to participate in and lead on national research, 75% of which is categorised as world leading (4*) or internationally excellent (3*) at University of Sussex.
Sussex students get a truly international education, as nearly a third of staff come from outside the UK. However, University of Sussex has a specific focus on engaging with local businesses and community, perhaps more than some of the other universities around. Activities such as the Sussex Innovation Centre and public lectures position Brighton students as an integral part of the local landscape.
While situated outside of the city, University of Sussex has all the facilities on campus that you could dream of. From specialist study spaces to cafes, bars and shops, you won’t need to run back to the city centre to have an exciting student experience.

The library services, particularly geared towards research degrees, prides itself in helping students have the best possible experience in their learning and research. Also, check out the Skills Hub which can help you develop your academic skills whilst at Sussex through web resources, workshops and in-person support.
