*4Connect-Plus is a product that enables students to allow their devices to 'see and speak' to each other by creating their own secure local area network (LAN). For example; connecting a WiFi printer or WiFi speaker to their phone or laptop. Without this product, no devices on our network are able to 'see or speak' to each other as we have something called port protect enabled across all of the sites that we provide to. We put this in place to keep everyone secure when connected to our network. This product also allows students to add an additional 4 devices on top of their inclusive allowance.

It is important to keep in mind that some devices that students may own may not be capable of obtaining the speeds that we provide. Also, the wireless service should always be communicated as an 'UP TO' speed. This is entirely due to WiFi not being as stable as a wired connection, because we can only physically control the environment up to the access point (where the service is then emitted into the air in the same way as a router). Many factors can affect the performance of the wireless service that we have no control over, however our support team is always on hand (24/7 365 days) and happy to work with any student that is unhappy with our service for any reason - we will do what we can to diagnose and improve their service. I can't stress enough that we really want and need students to contact Support if they have any problems at all with the internet. Here are the contact details for Support:

  • Telephone - 0114 303 3232 - we have many bilingual and multilingual Support team members and also have use of a translation service, should a language barrier be a worry.
  • SMS (for a call back) - 07797 800 545
